This Website is under construction. Soon to be the new Website for FCV Dorcas
FCV Dorcas is a voluntary organisation supporting isolated older people living in Central and South Islington in order to enhance their quality of life. Our Volunteers offer befriending visits, telephone befriending, assisted shopping trips and outings (using our own minibuses), run a twice-weekly Lunch Club and offer help with practical tasks. The work is very rewarding and can provide valuable experience for those wanting to pursue opportunities in care or community work. Requests for services come from a number of sources including social workers, health workers, family members and friends.

Finsbury and Clerkenwell Volunteers was set up in 1971 to help alleviate isolation for elderly residents in the local community and this remains the organisation’s aim. In 2015
Dorcas Befriending Project, based in Canonbury since 2001, was merged into FCV. As a result, the newly formed FCV Dorcas now provides the following services for elderly and disabled clients living in Central and South Islington:-
Befriending – This is a one-on-one service, matching volunteers with clients whose mobility is constrained usually by age but occasionally by disability.
Telephone Club – over 100 clients receive a call from a volunteer once or twice a week. The service also acts as a liaison point with members of clients’ families, a large number of whom have moved away from the area.
Lunch Club – Run entirely by volunteers this meets on a Monday and Thursday at the Vibast Centre, Old Street, London EC1. Transport is provided for those who are unable to get there by themselves. Weekly Shopping trips. Occasional Outings/Events. The FCV Dorcas
Art Club meets weekly at the Bridge Centre, N1.
